Increasing the internet ranking of La Costa Upholstery

Helping small businesses increase their web presence is a key value E. David Callender Consulting provides. I wanted to provide a case study of La Costa Upholstery, a small business in San Diego to show how any local small business can gain value by making a small effort every week.

The first step was revamping their website. The original website described La Costa Upholstery background and not was the value potential customers could gain by re upholstering their furniture. On the technical side the old website lacked basic on page search optimization: Little key word content, missing keywords in the title of the homepage), no meta tags (keywords) or meta descriptions. We chose to use WordPress as the framework of the site development and optimizing their website for the key phrases “Upholstery Repair and Upholstery Fabric“ within the geographic area of San Diego and more specifically the cities of Encinitas and Carlsbad.

The first effort for the development of the website was to created content that would both be of value for potential customers and would show search engines like Google and Bing that this website was about “Upholstery Repair and Upholstery Fabric. “ We chose to present information about the title “When is it time for Upholstery Repair?).

This content was placed in two locations of the website; the homepage and a blog post within the website. This allowed the viewer to get a quick understanding of La Costa Upholstery on the homepage and if they are interested to click on a hyper link to the blog post to get more information. From a on page search optimization point of view, having a homepage that is targeted to the key phrases and create “a deep link” within the website that will help with the ranking of the website in the future as we expand the content of the website.

The obvious goal of this project is to bring more customers to La Costa Upholstery. This will be done with standard Search Engine Optimization including:

  • Increasing the ranking of La Costa Upholstery’s Local Search listing
  • Link building
  • Social Media development
  • Use of Pay Per Click advertising

So as we move forward I will be tracking status of their:

  • Present ranking for both local placing listing and web page ranking (1st page for both is goal)
  • How much effort we expended by both E. David Consulting and the client
  • Website’s traffic
  • New customers contacting and coming into their business

If you have not already figured out, the other use of this blog post on my site is to create a directed link to La Costa Upholstery with the key words of interest. We will have to see if the gods at Google and Bing think that my blog post and the links I placed within the article are worthy of indexing and increasing the rank of the best Upholstery Shop near Encinitas CA.

Maintaining a Facebook fan page is a great way for and public figures to maintain a connection and dialogue with the public. Making the fan page easy to find is very important, but it can be difficult with the lengthy URL that Facebook automatically generates for each page. These addresses typically contain long strings of random numbers that no one could remember. Creating a custom URL, also known as a vanity URL, is an easy and convenient solution to this problem.

Go to the Facebook homepage. Log into your account by typing your email address and password into the space provided and clicking the button marked “Login.”

Navigate to your Facebook fan page. Look the fan page over to make sure that you meet the prerequisites for having a custom vanity URL. You need to be an Administrator of the fan page and the page must have a minimum of 25 fans.

Go to the Facebook username menu by single clicking in browser’s address bar to place the cursor in it. Type “facebook.com/username” and click the “Enter” button. Note that you should actually type the word “username.” Do not substitute this with your personal user name.

Review the username menu screen. The screen is divided, with the top half devoted to your personal Facebook page, and the bottom half devoted to the fan pages of which you are an Administrator. Look over the page and familiarize yourself with the layout.

Click the drop down menu on the bottom half of the screen to retrieve a list of fan pages you administrate. Click on the page for which you wish to create a custom vanity url.

Choose a unique url. Type the address that you would like to use into the box provided as “facebook.com/myname,” replacing the “myname” portion with the actual name you would like to use. Click the “Check Availability” button to confirm that the selection is not already in use by another fan page, then click “Save” to complete the process.

Just remember: names will be given out on a first come, first served basis. Certain exceptions will be made for public figures and trademarked names, but that’s probably not an option unless your name is Madonna
